The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported that approximately 14 million Nigerians are addicted to drug abuse. This statistic was highlighted by Mrs. Yetunde Joyifous, the Deputy Commander of the Ondo State Command of NDLEA, during a drug abuse awareness program in Ile Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government Area.
The NDLEA has also noted that drug abuse is prevalent among various demographics, including high-profile individuals, and is not limited to any specific group.
In addition to the widespread issue of drug addiction, the NDLEA has reported that Nigeria records approximately 2.5 million drug-related deaths annually. This alarming figure underscores the critical need for comprehensive strategies to combat drug abuse and its associated consequences.
The NDLEA continues to implement various initiatives, including enforcement activities, sensitization programs, rehabilitation efforts, and border patrols, to address the challenges posed by drug abuse in Nigeria.
