The Ogun Police Command has found the body of 76-year-old Sikiru Olatunji, who was reported missing days ago, in a forest in Yewa North Local Government Area.
Omolola Odutola, the command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a statement released on Wednesday.
Odutola revealed that the body was discovered following an extensive search by the police and local security operatives.
The PPRO stated that Olatunji’s body was found lifeless without any injuries, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
She said, “His corpse was found about one and a half kilometres from Wasinmi Abule Maria via Balogun Village in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
“According to police reports, the deceased was found lying face-up with his cutlass by his side. No visible signs of violence were observed on his body, leaving the cause of his death unclear.
“The discovery was made known following an extensive bush-clearing operation and a coordinated search effort by police officers from Imasayi Division, assisted by Amotekun operatives, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, the Baale, and local hunters.”
She added that the deceased’s family requested his body for burial while calling for public support in uncovering the circumstances surrounding his death.
“Following the recovery, the deceased’s family requested and was granted custody of the corpse for burial.
“However, the police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and are soliciting useful information from the public to aid their inquiry.
“The Ogun State Police Command urges anyone with relevant details to come forward and assist in ensuring a thorough investigation,” Odutola concluded.
