Babaro, a notorious bandit leader linked to numerous violent attacks in Katsina State, is reportedly holding retired Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga hostage in Bununu Forest, located in Faskari Local Government Area, near the border with Ƙankara LGA.
The revelation emerged from members of the Kandarawa community in Bakori LGA, who were kidnapped by Babaro’s gang on January 14, 2025. According to security analyst Bakatsine, who shared the information on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, the captives disclosed that they saw Brig. Gen. Tsiga in captivity before their release.
The Kandarawa hostages were freed after paying a ransom of ₦30 million and confirmed that Tsiga was still being held at the time of their departure. They noted that the retired general was receiving proper care, including being provided with bottled water.
Tsiga, a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was abducted from his residence in Tsiga town, Bakori LGA, on the night of Wednesday, January 10, 2025. His abductors have since demanded ₦250 million for his release.
Babaro is a feared criminal known for orchestrating attacks across several LGAs, including Ƙankara, Malumfashi, Bakori, Faskari, and Funtua.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the situation, while security agencies continue efforts to secure the retired general’s release.
