The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has dismissed allegations circulating in a viral video that its fuel burns out quickly, describing the claim as baseless and misleading.
In a statement released on Saturday, NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye refuted the accusations, stating that they were based on unverified, amateur research with no scientific backing.
He emphasized that the fuel supplied at NNPC retail stations is of high quality, formulated for efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability.
"Furthermore, a significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at NNPC stations in Lagos—where this misleading video originated—is sourced from Dangote Refinery, which strictly adheres to global industry standards," the statement read.
NNPC described the viral claim as a deliberate attempt by economic saboteurs to mislead Nigerians and tarnish the company’s reputation.
The corporation further warned that it would take legal action against individuals or groups spreading falsehoods about its products.
“Henceforth, NNPC Ltd will take firm legal action against those who intentionally spread false information about our brand and operations. Such individuals will be held accountable under the law," the statement added.
The NNPC urged the public to disregard misleading content and rely only on verified sources for accurate information, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring fuel availability, affordability, and adherence to global quality standards.
