
Unknown gunmen have kidnapped Rev. Father Livinus Maurice, the Parish Priest of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Isokpo, along with two others in Rivers State.
The abduction occurred on Wednesday along the Elele-Isiokpo Road as the priest was returning from a hospital visit.
The Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt confirmed the incident in a statement signed by its Chancellor, Rev. Father Bernadine Anaele. The diocese called on the faithful to pray for the safe and unconditional release of the priest and his companions.
“Although the matter has been reported to the security agencies, Christ’s faithful of Port Harcourt Diocese and Nigeria at large have been urged to intensify prayers for the safe and unconditional release of the priest and those with him,” part of the statement read.
Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, also confirmed the incident, stating that security agencies are actively investigating and working towards securing the victims’ release.
“The command is aware of the incident, and we are making frantic efforts to ensure the priest and the two others are released unhurt,” she said.
Authorities have assured the public that every effort is being made to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of the hostages.
