The Ogun State Police Command has intercepted 20 individuals found in possession of dangerous weapons, including daggers, knives, cutlasses, and suspected charms. The arrest took place on Saturday near the Ogun-Oyo boundary, raising security concerns.
According to police reports, the suspects, whose origins remain unknown, were seen disembarking from a truck at a location near the state border. Officers on routine patrol, led by Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo, spotted the group acting suspiciously and swiftly moved in to investigate.
A statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed that upon being stopped for questioning, the individuals failed to provide a clear reason for their movement or destination. This prompted an immediate search of their belongings, leading to the discovery of the weapons.
“In response to this alarming find, the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate detention of the suspects and instructed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to conduct a thorough profiling of each individual,” Odutola said. “Anyone found culpable will be swiftly prosecuted in court to ensure justice is served.”
Commissioner Ogunlowo reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence gathering, and swift law enforcement responses. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police unit for timely intervention.
As investigations continue, security agencies are working to determine the intentions of the arrested individuals and their possible connections to criminal activities in the region.
