Suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have killed three Nigerian Army personnel in a coordinated attack on a military base in Borno State.
According to SaharaReporters, the insurgents stormed the military facility in Isige town, Gwoza Local Government Area, in a prolonged assault last Sunday. During the raid, the terrorists reportedly burned down several buildings and carted away two gun trucks.
A military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the attack, revealing that a staff sergeant and two private soldiers lost their lives. However, their identities are being withheld pending notification of their families.
*"There was an attack in Borno recently. One staff sergeant and two private soldiers were killed. The army authorities have remained silent on the incident, which took place at a base in Isige town,"* the source said.
*"The insurgents set a military vehicle ablaze and took off with two gun trucks before reinforcements arrived. By then, the Boko Haram fighters had already fled."*
The attack comes just weeks after insurgents launched a deadly assault on the military’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno, where several soldiers were killed and others declared missing.
A security source disclosed that the **25 Task Force Brigade** suffered heavy casualties in the recent offensive, saying, *"We have recovered over seven bodies so far."*
ISWAP later claimed responsibility for the attack, releasing images of its fighters engaging in a gun battle at the military facility.
Since the death of Boko Haram factional leader Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has strengthened its foothold around the Lake Chad region, absorbing hundreds of former Boko Haram fighters.
Despite repeated claims by the Nigerian Army that insurgency has been largely defeated, the terrorist group continues to carry out deadly raids, with over 100,000 deaths and millions displaced across Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
