Kenyan authorities have arrested a woman, Melvin Owuor, and her friend in connection with the tragic death of her four-year-old son.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, February 16, 2025. Investigators revealed that the child allegedly died from injuries inflicted by his mother after he soiled himself.
According to the DCI, Owuor and her friend took the lifeless body of the child to Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary on December 9, 2024. However, after being advised by mortuary officials to report the death to the police, they failed to return and switched off their phones.
Their disappearance raised suspicion, prompting the mortician to alert officers at Mowlem Police Station.
"Detectives from Dandora, working with CRIB investigators from Nairobi, launched a probe and uncovered shocking details about the child’s final moments," the DCI stated.
While Owuor initially claimed that the child had died in his sleep, forensic evidence suggested otherwise. Upon further interrogation, investigators determined that the minor succumbed to injuries sustained after being beaten by his mother.
Authorities confirmed that Owuor is the biological mother of the victim, further deepening the tragedy of the case.
“As detectives continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the child's death, the suspect remains in custody, assisting in the investigation,” the DCI said, assuring that those responsible will be held accountable.
