Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, Amotekun, successfully thwarted an attempted robbery along the Odogbolu axis of the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway in the early hours of Sunday, neutralizing one suspect and capturing two others.
According to a statement issued by the Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adeditgba (retd), the operatives engaged the armed robbers in a gun battle, leading to the death of one suspect. Another, identified as Amechie Okoro, was arrested at the scene.
Further investigations led security personnel to the gang’s hideout, resulting in the capture of another accomplice, Micheal Oko, who had initially escaped.
During interrogation, Okoro reportedly admitted that he had been released from Ikoyi Prison just a week prior. Oko also disclosed that he was recruited into the gang by their alleged leader, identified only as Awuha.
Items recovered from the suspects included N113,050 in cash, a motorcycle with registration number Lagos KTU 668, 12 mobile phones, two locally made pistols, a silver wristwatch, and a red headphone.
Adeditgba confirmed that the deceased suspect’s remains had been deposited at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital morgue, while the two arrested individuals have been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
