Unknown gunmen in the Lantoro neighbourhood of Abeokuta have axed and shot a 22-year-old man named Razak Jimoh to death.
It was learnt that two masked men pursued the victim, who fled into a residence. They forcefully dragged him out to the corridor, struck his leg with an axe, and shot him in the head.
Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun Police Command, confirmed the incident on Sunday, stating that it occurred at 11 p.m. Thursday.
Odutola stated, “The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kemta Division, upon getting the information, immediately mobilized detectives to the crime scene.”
She noted, “The victim’s body has since been deposited at the General Hospital for autopsy and further investigation.”
Condemning the violent crime, which may have been linked to cult-related activities, Odutola, disclosed that Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo had ordered an urgent manhunt for the culprits. She assured the public that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Meanwhile, she encouraged residents to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
