At least seven people, including six students of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), are feared dead following a tragic collision between an articulated vehicle and a FUL shuttle bus in the Felele area of Lokoja on the busy Lokoja-Abuja highway on Monday afternoon.

An eyewitness reported that the incident occurred around 2:30 pm, with the shuttle bus driver also among the casualties.

The source revealed that the truck, which was loaded with timber and dozens of Jerry cans filled with palm oil, experienced a brake failure, causing it to crash into the shuttle bus packed with students.

The force of the impact crushed the shuttle bus, leaving motorists and passengers on the highway stranded in the aftermath of the horrific crash.

Personnel from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were quickly on the scene to rescue victims trapped under the wreckage of the truck.

FRSC State Sector Commandant, Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, who led the rescue team, told reporters he could not immediately confirm the exact number of fatalities.

However, Oyedeji confirmed that the injured victims were transported to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) and Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue of both hospitals for identification.
