During the coroner’s inquest into the death of singer Mohbad, the nurse who administered injections on him before his passing detailed the events surrounding his final hours
She revealed that on September 11, 2023, she was in Cotonou processing her admission when she missed a call from Mohbad’s friend, Spending.
Upon arrival, she was led upstairs by DJ Bami, where she saw water on the floor, which he mopped before moving Mohbad to another room.
“It was just the four of us upstairs—me, Mohbad, DJ Bami, and Wunmi.”
Explaining the treatment she gave, she stated,
“As I was giving the first injection, Mohbad asked me what I was administering, and I told him: Tetanus Injection, Paracetamol Injection, and antibiotics. I first gave him the Tetanus and Paracetamol injections. After the Paracetamol injection, Wunmi mentioned that he had an ulcer.”
She continued,
“When I gave him the third injection, he started reacting, saying he wanted to throw up. DJ Bami and Wunmi helped him to the bathroom, where he vomited. After that, he sat on the floor, weak, with goosebumps appearing on his body. Wunmi told me this was how he usually reacted to injections. I told her she should have informed me earlier. She then said pouring water on his head would calm him down, and she did so.”

Sensing an emergency, she and DJ Bami rushed to a pharmacy for an antidote.
“We got to the first pharmacy, but they didn’t have what we needed, so we went to another. While there, they called DJ Bami from the house, saying Mohbad was convulsing. I told them to rush him to the hospital.”
By the time she returned, Mohbad was already being taken out of the house.
“They carried him like a baby and put him in a neighbor’s car. Wunmi and I sat in the front while some guys I didn’t know were at the back with Mohbad. On our way, we got stuck in terrible traffic. We had to transfer him to a bike. I begged drivers to give way so the bike could move.”
At the hospital, she said the doctor questioned her.
“He asked if I gave him Diclofenac, and I said no. I told him what I administered, and he then told us Mohbad had passed away.”
She also recounted how another hospital confirmed his death before they took his body back home.
“When we returned to the house, they locked the doors and restricted people from entering. A large crowd had gathered outside. From the time I arrived at the house until I left, I never saw Baba Mohbad.”
Addressing concerns over her qualifications, she admitted,
“I actually thought I was a qualified auxiliary nurse until Mohbad’s case started, and they said I was not. I have an O-level and trained at a hospital from 2014 to 2017.”

She also questioned why she was called at all.
“What I gave Mohbad was the right dosage for anyone with a cut. The lower part of his hand was swollen, so I gave him the tetanus injection on the upper hand. Before I went to the house, I asked DJ Bami to send me a picture of the cut. I received it when I was just five minutes away. If I had seen it earlier, I wouldn’t have gone—I would have told them to take him to a pharmacy instead.”
On Spending’s role, she clarified,
“I knew Spending through a referral, and he had sent many people to me before Mohbad’s case. Spending was not in the house when all this happened. I don’t know why they waited for me to return from Cotonou. From the first call to when I arrived, about 22 hours had passed. From when I treated Mohbad to when they said he was dead was just two hours.”
She also noted what she was told about the cause of the injury.
“I asked DJ Bami about the cut before I started treatment, and he said it was a glass cut. He told me they had removed the glass from his hand the previous day.”
