A Nigerian lady has ignited public outrage after a viral video showed her cutting a ₦1,000 naira note and using the cut-out “1000” inscription as nail art.
The clip, which surfaced online on Friday, captured the woman carefully snipping the currency with scissors before attaching the pieces to her nails for decoration.
Her actions have sparked fierce condemnation across social media platforms, with many Nigerians calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to take action against the blatant defacement of the national currency.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act explicitly prohibits the mutilation, defacing, or destruction of the naira, stating such offenses are punishable by law. However, despite these legal provisions, cases of currency abuse continue to surface, often fueled by social media trends.
Many users expressed anger and disappointment, describing the act as disrespectful and urging authorities to make an example of the lady to deter others.
"This is beyond irresponsible," one commenter wrote. "People are struggling to make ends meet, and someone is destroying money for nail fashion? EFCC should act fast."
As public pressure mounts, all eyes are on authorities to see whether the viral stunt will lead to legal consequences.
