The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully neutralized two notorious bandit kingpins, Gero (Alhaji) and Alhaji Riga, along with over 20 of their fighters, in a precise airstrike targeting their hideout in Katsina State.
The operation, carried out by the Air Component of *Operation Fansan Yamma*, struck fortified bandit enclaves in the Unguwar Goga Hillforest area of Ruwan Godiya Ward, Faskari Local Government Area, during the early hours of Wednesday, March 13.
Deputy NAF Spokesman, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, confirmed the development in an official statement, revealing the strike was based on credible intelligence and successfully dismantled the group’s stronghold.
"Additional casualties were reported around the rocky hills, and a full damage assessment is ongoing," the statement read.
Gero and Riga were identified as major enablers of banditry in the region, offering refuge to criminal factions responsible for deadly ambushes along the Funtua-Gusau Road, especially near Yankara and Sheme villages.
Their elimination, according to Group Captain Ali, represents a significant breakthrough in the ongoing military effort to restore security in the North-West.
He reiterated NAF’s commitment to collaborating with ground troops to wipe out remaining bandit networks and ensure lasting peace in the region.
