In a decisive crackdown on criminal activities, the Abia State Police Command has eliminated six suspected kidnappers and rescued four abducted victims during a high-stakes operation in Osokwa, Osisioma, Ngwa Local Government Area.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the development on Saturday, identifying the rescued individuals as Onwuka Chimela, Onwuka Emeh Chinaza, Isreal Ikemsinachi Ukandu, and Ibiam Kingsley.
The victims were reportedly ambushed and kidnapped on March 9 while traveling in a Toyota RAV4 along New Umuahia Road, Obingwa. Their captivity lasted five grueling days before law enforcement agents tracked the gang’s hideout to a three-bedroom bungalow using advanced intelligence tools.
“Our tactical team, acting on credible intelligence, located the kidnappers’ den. Upon arrival, officers came under heavy gunfire but swiftly responded with superior firepower, neutralizing six suspects and ensuring the safe rescue of all four victims,” Chinaka stated.
A significant cache of weapons was recovered from the scene, including two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 34 rounds of live ammunition.
The rescued victims, though visibly shaken, were unharmed and immediately taken to the Police Hospital for medical checks.
Commending the operatives for their bravery, Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa praised the team’s swift response and vowed to maintain relentless pressure on criminal elements across the state.
“This operation serves as a strong warning — Abia State will never be a safe zone for criminals. We urge residents to report anyone with gunshot wounds or suspicious behavior to the nearest police station,” Isa declared.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to capture the remaining gang members who fled with injuries during the shootout.
The police reiterated their unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring the state remains secure.
