Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has voiced regret over his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, citing the country’s worsening economic and security crises.
In an interview with BBC Hausa on Friday, El-Rufai admitted he believed Tinubu’s leadership would mirror his achievements as Lagos State governor — a hope that, according to him, has fallen flat.
“We supported him despite his challenges, including allegations over his Chicago University certificate and other controversies,” El-Rufai stated. "We believed his performance in Lagos could be replicated on a national scale, but that hasn’t happened."
El-Rufai’s comments come as Nigerians grapple with inflation, insecurity, and hardship, raising questions about the administration’s ability to deliver on its promises.
