A recent survey has revealed that men in Lagos spent a staggering N661 billion on transactional s+x in 2024, with N329 billion going directly to workers in the adult industry and another N332 billion covering associated expenses.

The data, shared by social media user @kayomosebi on X, explored the economic ripple effects of s+x work across Lagos. The study surveyed 3.1 million s+xually active men aged 20 to 69 across 20 local government areas, uncovering that 1.86 million of them engaged in transactional relationships.

The average cost per encounter was pegged at N36,750, with the lowest rates around N20,000. Eti-Osa Local Government Area — home to affluent neighborhoods like Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Lekki — recorded the highest fees, reaching up to N100,000 per session. Other high-activity zones included Surulere, Kosofe, Alimosho, and Oshodi-Isolo.

Breaking down the N329 billion directly earned by s+x workers, the survey noted that N93 billion was funneled into beauty and skincare products, while N62.5 billion supported family needs. Another N62.5 billion went to lifestyle costs such as rent, fashion, fitness, and transportation.

A notable N46 billion was invested in business ventures, including cryptocurrency, forex trading, and sports betting. Health and education expenses, covering medical check-ups, antibiotics, and school fees, amounted to N30 billion.

The remaining N332 billion reflected related spending by Lagos men. Entertainment, food, and hospitality services led this category with N150.6 billion, while N33.4 billion was spent on substances like drugs, s+xual enhancers, stimulants, and adult accessories. High-end gifts, luxury trips, and other lavish indulgences also contributed significantly to the total.

The survey’s findings paint a striking picture of how deeply transactional relationships influence Lagos' economy, intertwining with industries ranging from beauty and fashion to hospitality and investments.
