Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Nathaniel Bassey has given his opinion on the trending issue of whether gospel ministers should charge for ministrations in churches.

Bassey revealed that he does not charge for services, citing his personal conviction that ministry should not be commercialised.

He believed that since ministry is a service to God, it’s improper to put a price on it.

He said: “If a church invites me to come and minister, they are doing two things. They are inviting me to minister to God and to his people.

“Let me just say this before I trend in twitter, to my own understanding is when you tell me to minister to God, I can’t charge God to minister to him.

“How much did he charge me for his blood on Calvary? The blood that is the very reason for my ministry. It’s a personal thing for me and it has worked for me, so why leave what is working?”

Bassey’s stance comes amid a heated debate sparked by Apostle Femi Lazarus, who criticised gospel artists for charging exorbitant fees to perform at church events.

The Pastor recalled an instance where a singer demanded a hefty sum to perform for his congregation.

While some have praised Bassey’s stance, others have argued that gospel artists have expenses to cover and should be compensated for their work.
