The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested twelve suspects linked to a violent attack on worshippers observing Tahajjud prayers in Rigasa, resulting in the tragic death of 23-year-old Usman Mohammed.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Friday, March 21, 2025.
According to Hassan, police received a distress call around 2 a.m., reporting that a large group of armed thugs had mobilized from Malalin Gabas, Tudun Wada, Rafin Guza, and Unguwar Baduko to target worshippers at Layin Bilya, Makwa Road in Rigasa.
Responding swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) commander, led a team to the scene. However, by the time they arrived, the attackers had already stabbed Usman Mohammed with a sharp knife. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead by doctors hours later.
Twelve suspects were apprehended, with Hassan stating they confessed to participating in the brutal attack. Several weapons were also recovered from the suspects. A full investigation is now underway to uncover the motive and ensure those responsible face justice.
In the wake of the attack, the Kaduna Police Command has ramped up security around mosques and other key areas to prevent further violence.
Hassan urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities, warning that anyone caught engaging in criminal acts will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
