Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has enforced a 24-hour curfew across two local government areas following intensified violence between the Ifon and Ilobu communities over a long-standing land dispute.
The conflict, which turned deadly, claimed three lives — including a former councillor — and left 30 others wounded by gunfire on Friday. Reports also indicate that women and children fled their homes to escape the chaos, leaving many displaced.
Initially, Governor Adeleke introduced a dusk-to-dawn curfew and convened a peace meeting with the traditional rulers from the rival communities. However, the violence spiraled, with arsonists setting ablaze hundreds of homes. In response, the governor extended the curfew to Erin-Osun town, upgrading it to a full, round-the-clock lockdown.
Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, confirmed the development, stating that all security forces — including the Military, Police, NSCDC, Immigration, NDLEA, and Amotekun — have been instructed to enforce the curfew rigorously.
“The curfew is essential to prevent more bloodshed and restore order,” Alimi said, noting that the restriction will remain until calm is completely restored.
The state government urged residents to comply with the curfew, stressing that anyone found violating the order would face legal consequences.
