Suspected kidnappers have abducted a Nigerian Navy officer attached to the Defence Headquarters, Lt. Cynthia Akor, alongside two others in Abuja’s Mpape area.
The incident, which occurred on Friday night, was confirmed by sources cited by *Vanguard*. The trio was reportedly taken from their residence, with the kidnappers later contacting their families, demanding a hefty N100 million ransom for their release.
"One of those abducted is Lt. Akor, a Defence Headquarters officer. The kidnappers have already made contact with the families, insisting on N100 million before they are freed," a source disclosed.
Though the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has yet to release an official statement, investigations are said to be underway.
Security forces, including personnel from the police, navy, and Defence Headquarters, have launched a coordinated manhunt for the abductors and a search-and-rescue mission to secure the hostages' freedom.
As of now, both the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, and the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, have not provided any comments on the situation.
The incident adds to the growing concerns over the rising wave of kidnappings across the nation, especially within the capital, where security measures are now being scrutinized.
