Eight students from Ifo High School, Ogun State, have been apprehended over alleged involvement in cult-related activities, following a tip-off from school authorities.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrests on Saturday, revealing that the school's Vice Principal, Mr. Alako Oluwole, and a teacher, Mr. Akinseku Oloruntoba Julius, reported the disturbing development on March 21, 2025.
According to the report, the students — suspected to belong to a group known as the "Future Guys" — were accused of causing disruptions and extorting valuables from their peers. Investigations suggest they were initiated by two senior students.
“The Ifo Divisional Police Officer collaborated with the school’s management to carry out the arrests,” Odutola stated.
She added that a comprehensive investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the group's activities and prevent further incidents. The arrested students are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered the students to be presented to him for further interviews, with plans to arrange counseling and mentoring programs for those found misguided.
Ogunlowo emphasized the command’s unwavering stance against cultism, calling on parents, teachers, and community leaders to join forces in tackling the rising influence of cult groups in schools.
