A deadly clash between residents of Baidi community in Tangaza Local Government Area and armed bandits on Saturday, March 22, left one person dead and two others wounded.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the attackers stormed the village in broad daylight, arriving on six motorcycles, with three heavily armed men on each bike.
In the ensuing confrontation, villagers bravely resisted, but one resident later died from gunshot wounds at Tangaza General Hospital, where the injured were rushed for treatment.
Local sources say this marks the third bandit attack in the area within a week, sparking fear and frustration among the people. The attackers, however, are not linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group, whose presence has weakened due to intensified security operations.
Despite the Lakurawa’s decline, fleeing bandits have exploited the security gaps, escalating violence through killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling in Baidi and neighboring villages like Layinna and Aliya. In recent incidents, one person was reportedly killed, several others injured, and access to essential water sources cut off.
“The community is under siege. We need immediate intervention from the authorities,” a distressed resident told reporters.
The Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Council, Isah Salihu Kalenjini, visited the hospital to assess the victims’ conditions, assuring residents that efforts are underway to restore peace and protect lives and property.
Community members continue to appeal to security agencies for urgent reinforcement, fearing more attacks if the bandits remain unchecked.
