In a coordinated overnight operation, a joint security task force successfully rescued Lt. Cynthia Akor, a naval officer abducted in Abuja, from a hideout in Nasarawa State.
The rescue mission, conducted between 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, involved the military, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups.
Akor was kidnapped alongside two civilians on Friday evening near the Mamman Vatsa Estate gate along Mpape Road, Abuja. Reports indicate that the kidnappers initially demanded ₦500 million for her release and ₦200 million for each of the other hostages.
Speaking on the operation, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, DCP Isyaku Sharu, said, *"Upon receiving the distress call, an extensive search-and-rescue mission was launched immediately. The operation covered key areas, including Mpape, Gidan Bawa, Anguwan Mu’azu, and Yelwa Hills, stretching into Nasarawa State."*
Four suspects were apprehended during the raid, and ₦3.5 million — believed to be ransom money from earlier abductions — was recovered.
Sharu confirmed that all three victims were found in stable condition and are currently receiving medical care at the Nigerian Army Clinic in Abuja.
Authorities have since intensified security in Mpape and nearby areas to forestall further criminal activity.
The successful rescue has drawn praise from community leaders, with many urging security agencies to sustain the momentum in tackling the rising wave of kidnappings in the region.
