Lagos-based model Ololade Ayelabola has etched her name into history by walking an incredible 125.11 kilometers (77.74 miles) on a catwalk — setting a new world record for the longest distance covered on a runway.
The 26-year-old achieved this feat over five days during a fashion event she organized in Lagos, after being turned away from a Lagos Fashion Week audition for not meeting height requirements.
Rather than let the rejection define her, Ayelabola turned the setback into motivation. Determined to challenge beauty standards and promote inclusivity in the modeling industry, she created her own platform to give underrepresented talents a stage.
“During the audition, the judges told me, ‘You walk well, but you’re not tall enough.’ It broke my heart,” Ayelabola revealed. “I started thinking about all the other models who get rejected for reasons they can’t control — their height, their skin, their look — and I knew I had to do something.”
She went on to design and host her own runway event, transforming her disappointment into an empowering statement for diversity in fashion.
The Guinness World Records (GWR) officially recognized her achievement, applauding her resilience. "Nigerian model breaks catwalk record after being told she’s not tall enough for the runway!" the organization announced on its website.
Ayelabola, who has been modeling for six years, says the event wasn’t just about breaking a record — it was about inspiring people to embrace who they are. "This runway wasn’t just for me — it was for everyone who’s ever been told they’re not enough."
Her journey now stands as a powerful reminder that rejection can be the first step toward creating something extraordinary.
