The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four individuals in connection with the death of a 20-year-old security guard, Polmi Dauda, after an altercation near his workplace.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Mohammed Wakili, released a statement on Sunday detailing that the incident was initially reported on March 22 by the victim’s brother, Danda Dauda, to the Bauchi Metro Area Command. The case was subsequently transferred to the E Divisional Police Headquarters in Yelwa for a comprehensive investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that Polmi Dauda, who worked as a guard at Larema Hotel, sustained severe injuries during a confrontation with several individuals. He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The investigation uncovered allegations that the conflict began after Dauda was accused of stealing a tenant’s clothing and personal belongings — a claim that may have escalated tensions leading to the fatal encounter.
The arrested suspects include Ibrahim Yahaya, a pharmacist at ATBUTH; Musa Awwal, a medical doctor at the same hospital; Imrana Ibrahim, a local businessman; and Zakariya’u Isah, a fellow security guard.
CSP Wakili confirmed that all four suspects are cooperating with authorities as the investigation, now classified as a potential homicide, continues.
“The suspects are currently in custody, and the case is being thoroughly investigated to uncover the truth behind the tragic incident,” Wakili stated.
The police also confirmed that Dauda’s body has been placed at the ATBUTH mortuary for a postmortem examination to aid the investigation.
Wakili urged residents to remain calm, assuring the public that justice would prevail.
