In a series of intense operations, troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, working alongside Sector 2 Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), have dismantled multiple bandit camps, seized weapons, and arrested key suspects across Taraba State.
Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, disclosed that the latest offensive occurred on March 22, 2025, targeting Achalle — a border community between Taraba’s Karim Lamido Local Government Area and Plateau’s Wase Local Government Area.
During the raid, troops overpowered bandits, recovering motorcycles and an international passport belonging to one Muhammadu Dahiru, believed to have ties to the criminal network. Further operations at the Dutsen Zaki high ground saw soldiers clearing the area and neutralizing hostile threats.
In an earlier operation on March 16, based on credible intelligence, troops raided the residence of two notorious gunrunners — Irimiya Aboki and Tanko Adamu, known as "Arewa Mafia" — in Mararraba Donga, Donga Local Government Area. Though the suspects evaded capture, soldiers recovered four pistols, a pump-action rifle, and six cartridges from their hideout.
The crackdown continued on March 20, when troops arrested Alhaji Mansur Mohammad, a suspected arms courier, in Donga LGA. He was found with ₦1.2 million, allegedly meant for purchasing illegal firearms. Preliminary investigations traced the funds to sponsors in Bauchi State.
On the same day, troops scored another major breakthrough with the arrest of Adamu Yakubu, infamously known as "No Money No Guy." Intelligence linked him to a string of violent crimes, including banditry, kidnapping, and a deadly March 10 attack on Tse-Shiikaa village in Katsina-Ala LGA, Benue State, where two people were killed, one sustained severe injuries, and others fled with gunshot and machete wounds.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, praised the troops for their unwavering dedication and professionalism. He assured Taraba residents of continued aggressive operations to eliminate banditry and other criminal activities, urging the public to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence to security forces.
The army's relentless push signals a renewed commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region.
