Veteran Nollywood actor, Jide Kosoko, has addressed the troubling issue of s*xual exploitation within the Nigerian film industry, urging aspiring actors to prioritize their dignity and self-respect.
Speaking on the *Honest Bunch* podcast, Kosoko emphasized that no one should feel compelled to exchange their morals for a movie role. He acknowledged that while some individuals may resort to questionable tactics to fast-track their careers, he advised others to stay true to their values.
“If someone asks you to share their bed for a role, and you refuse, they can’t force you,” Kosoko stated firmly. “You have the power to walk away.”
He admitted that some aspiring stars enter the industry with the mindset that sleeping with influential figures will secure them roles. However, he maintained that success earned through talent and perseverance is far more rewarding and sustainable.
“I know some ladies come in determined to climb the ladder by moving from one powerful person to another,” Kosoko added. “But that’s a personal choice — not a requirement for success.”
His comments have reignited discussions about the dark side of Nollywood, with industry stakeholders calling for stronger protections to ensure opportunities are based on merit rather than exploitation.
