Two individuals were injured following a violent clash between youths and operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The confrontation erupted around 4:00 a.m. on Friday in Kilange Village, when a customs patrol team returning from an anti-smuggling operation encountered a mob of youths attempting to reclaim a seized vehicle.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who reported the incident on his X platform, the NCS officers had earlier intercepted a vehicle suspected of smuggling fuel into Cameroon at Wuro Manu Malabu. As they transported the vehicle back, angry youths blocked the road, demanding its release.
The standoff escalated, prompting the customs officers to fire warning shots to disperse the crowd. Tragically, stray bullets struck two men — Abdulkarim Maikanti, 30, and Yauba Babai, 25 — both reportedly Cameroonian residents.
The injured victims were rushed to Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola, for urgent medical care.
Authorities have since visited the area, and efforts are underway to organize a stakeholders' meeting aimed at discouraging youths from interfering with law enforcement activities.
