A Nigerian woman living in Germany, identified as Olawande, has sparked online debate after openly declaring she doesn’t want children — despite being married for three years.
In a video shared on social media, Olawande explained her stance, addressing the constant pressure from family and friends questioning when she and her husband would start a family.
“I love kids — they’re adorable and amazing, especially when you can give them back to their parents,” she remarked.
She pointed out that hearing from mothers overwhelmed by financial strain, emotional stress, and personal sacrifices shaped her decision to remain child-free.
“As women, we sacrifice so much in marriage, especially when children come into the picture. Let’s be honest — people don’t always have kids for the joy they bring. Many do it out of obligation, driven by societal pressure and family expectations.”
Olawande further challenged traditional norms, particularly in religious cultures, where she believes women are conditioned to see motherhood as their primary life purpose.
“It’s not even treated as a choice — it’s an expectation. But this is the 21st century. Women should be free to decide for themselves," she asserted.
Her bold statement has drawn mixed reactions online, with some praising her for voicing a perspective often left unspoken, while others criticized her views as unconventional.
