The Borno State Police Command has apprehended a 17-year-old girl, Fatima Adamu, on allegations of infanticide following the death of her newborn baby.
Reports indicate that Fatima, a resident of Gamari Village in Niger Republic, gave birth to a healthy male child around 8:00 am on March 21, 2025. However, moments after the baby’s first cries were heard, a local woman, Fanna Modu from Chinguluski Village, raised an alarm when she noticed the infant had suddenly died, prompting suspicions of foul play.
Police sources confirmed that detectives were dispatched to the scene, where an initial inspection of the baby’s body revealed no visible injuries. The infant's remains were later transported to General Hospital Damasak for an autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Fatima was subsequently taken into custody and is undergoing questioning as investigations continue. Authorities have assured the public that they are committed to uncovering the truth behind the tragic incident.
