The Nigerian government said it has arrested and remanded in prison three people suspected of vandalising power line installations in Agbogwugu, Enugu State, negatively impacting the national grid.

The spokesperson of Transmission Company of Nigeria, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

She said the arrest was made on Sunday, March 24, 2025, due to a coordinated effort between community members and law enforcement agencies.

According to her, the suspects were initially detained at the Agbogwugu police station in Ozalla before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and subsequently remanded to prison after their first court appearance.

The agency said its officials are collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.

Quote
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the arrest of three individuals suspected of vandalising power line installations in Agbogugu, Enugu State.

“This achievement is the result of a collaborative effort between community members and law enforcement agents on Sunday, March 24, 2025.

“The suspects were initially held at Agbogwugu police station, Ozalla, then moved to the state CID and finally transferred to prison after their first court appearance. TCN officials are working closely with the police to ensure the vandals face justice.

“This incident highlights the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement to fight vandalism.

“We urge all host communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security operatives or to the TCN office close to you. Vandalism is an offence that affects everyone, undermining the nation’s efforts to provide a reliable and efficient transmission grid.

“By joining forces, we can protect our communities and ensure a robust transmission grid. Prompt reporting of suspicious activities will greatly contribute to preventing such incidents and bringing perpetrators to justice,”
she said.
