The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect, Uzochukwu Ugomadu, in connection with the recent explosion that occurred at a CCTV store along Kodesho Street, near Computer Village in Ikeja.
The blast, which sent panic across the bustling commercial district on April 12, was traced to an improvised explosive device (IED) planted inside the electronics store. Preliminary findings suggest a coordinated operation involving multiple suspects, with Ugomadu playing a key intermediary role.
According to a report by SaharaReporters, Ugomadu was apprehended at about noon on April 15 at a hideout located at No. 5 Fasoya Street, along Mile 12, Ketu-Ikorodu Road. Police sources indicate he had been on the run since the day of the explosion.
Confirming the development, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the arrest followed an intensive investigation launched immediately after the incident.
Security analyst and counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama, also weighed in via a post on his verified X handle, citing police findings that revealed Ugomadu received a package suspected to contain the IED from an individual identified only as “Prince,” who remains at large.
“He handed over the carton containing the explosive device to another suspect named Frank, also currently on the run. Frank is believed to have planted the device at the CCTV shop and was captured on the store’s surveillance system,” Makama stated.
Ugomadu is reported to have made a confessional statement outlining his involvement in the chain of events that led to the blast. He is now in custody and is said to be cooperating with detectives as investigations continue.
The Lagos Police Command has since intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened in and around Computer Village to prevent further incidents, as authorities reassure the public of their commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.
