A tragic incident marred Easter celebrations in Emure Ekiti as a one-year-old boy, Desmond Adewole, was fatally crushed by an unidentified vehicle outside St. Paul’s Anglican Church during the Easter Sunday service.
According to eyewitness accounts, the heartbreaking incident occurred when the toddler reportedly wandered out of the church premises in search of his mother. His lifeless body was later discovered on the church grounds, in a position suggesting he had been accidentally run over by a car.
A member of the church, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, confirmed the boy’s death and expressed dismay that the vehicle involved has yet to be identified. The individual described the atmosphere in the community as tense and filled with grief following the incident.
“This is a very painful loss. Nobody saw it happen. We just found the child on the ground, and it was clear a car had crushed him,” the church member said. “It has thrown the entire community into confusion and mourning.”
The identity of the driver remains unknown, as worshippers had filled the church premises during the busy Easter Sunday service.
In response to inquiries, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ekiti State, Mr. Sunday Abutu, confirmed that authorities are aware of the incident and assured the public that a full investigation will be conducted to uncover the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
The community continues to mourn the loss of young Desmond Adewole, whose life was cut short in an incident that has shocked residents and worshippers alike.
