Panic has gripped residents of Musukwani in Jakara, Kano Municipal Local Government Area, following the mysterious disappearance of two young boys in a deep, ominous ditch in the neighborhood. Locals have raised concerns over possible supernatural influences, citing strange events that have plagued the area for some time.
The alarming incident took place on Monday, April 21, 2025, when one of the boys, reportedly in his early teens, took off his clothes and wallet containing money before entering the ditch. Eyewitnesses at the scene shared their confusion and fear.
“We were sitting here when the boy approached us, gave us his clothes and wallet, and said he was going to check something in the ditch, where people sometimes store rods. He didn’t return. Even after nightfall, we waited, but there was no sign of him. His belongings are still with us,” Abdul Basit Yusha’u Safiyanu, a local shopkeeper, told Daily Post.
This unsettling case follows a similar disappearance just days earlier. Dan Sani, another boy, entered the same ditch with a friend and vanished without a trace. His whereabouts remain unknown, adding to the growing unease among residents.
Musa Hamza, a community leader and uncle of the missing boy, expressed his frustration and sorrow. “Dan Sani was only 12 years old. He went into the ditch with a friend, telling him to wait while he checked something. When the friend realized he hadn’t returned, he ran home to inform us. We searched everywhere, even checking the mortuary, but found nothing. It’s all rumors and fear now,” Hamza said.
In response to the alarming situation, the Kano State Fire Service was called to the scene. However, despite their efforts, the search for the missing boys proved fruitless. The service's spokesperson, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the unsuccessful operation. “We received a distress call at 3:55 p.m. on April 21, and our team rushed to the location. Unfortunately, we were unable to locate the missing individuals and had to call off the search,” Abdullahi explained.
The ditch, however, remains shrouded in mystery. Some residents believe the area is cursed or connected to paranormal activities, with several recalling other strange occurrences in the same spot over the years. Sadam Saraki, a local resident, linked the ditch to supernatural forces, which he believes have claimed the lives of others in the past.
Residents of Jakara have called on the Kano State Government and emergency agencies to urgently investigate the site and take necessary action to prevent further disappearances.
“People are terrified. We can’t sleep peacefully anymore,” said one concerned local.
As the community anxiously awaits answers, the fate of the two missing boys remains unknown, and the mystery surrounding the ditch deepens.
