The Nigerian community in the United Kingdom has been thrown into mourning following the death of a young nurse, Miriam, who was found lifeless in her Leeds apartment days after she went missing.
Miriam, who had recently returned to the UK after a trip to Nigeria for her wedding introduction, was discovered dead by police officers who forced their way into her apartment after concerns were raised about her sudden silence.
According to fellow Nigerian nurse, Ibironke Khadeejah Quadri, who shared the tragic news on X (formerly Twitter), Miriam completed her final nursing shift on Sunday and had not been seen or heard from since. After repeated attempts by friends to reach her failed, a missing persons report was filed.
“The police had to break into her apartment,” Ibironke wrote. “Sadly, she was found dead inside.”
Reports suggest that Miriam had traveled to Nigeria recently for her traditional wedding introduction, with plans for her partner to join her in the UK at a later date.
At the time of this report, the cause of death has not been officially disclosed by authorities. Her sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian diaspora, particularly within the healthcare community, where she was known and loved.
Tributes have poured in on social media as friends and colleagues express grief and disbelief over her untimely death.
