Notorious Bandit, Akumave Shogodo Gunned Down In Benue During Fierce Shootout With Police

A dreaded armed bandit, identified as Akumave Shogodo, met his end in the early hours of Monday following a bloody gun duel with operatives of the Benue State Police Command’s Tactical Team in Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area.

The operation, which began around 6:30 a.m. on April 29, followed an intelligence-led raid on a suspected criminal hideout in the troubled region. Upon arrival, the police team was met with heavy gunfire from Shogodo and his gang, prompting a fierce exchange of bullets.

Outgunned by the tactical unit’s superior firepower, the bandits were forced to retreat. Shogodo, who sustained serious injuries during the crossfire, was rushed to a nearby medical facility but was later confirmed dead.

A locally made short gun was recovered from the slain bandit, according to security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who confirmed the development.

Makama described Shogodo as a “high-profile criminal” who had long been on law enforcement’s radar for leading a reign of terror across Zaki-Biam and surrounding communities.

While other members of the gang managed to escape, police believe they fled with gunshot wounds. A manhunt is currently underway to track down the fleeing suspects.

The Benue State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that could aid ongoing security operations in the region.
