Nigerian music star Davido has opened up about the emotional journey of losing his first son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, and the uncanny resemblance between his late child and his newborn twin son.
In a recent interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, Davido described the likeness between his son, born in October 2023, and the late Ifeanyi as “scary,” adding that it felt as though Ifeanyi had returned.
“It’s scary. It is like literally him. We are like, ‘No, it’s him. He came back,’” Davido said.
Ifeanyi Adeleke, Davido’s first child with wife Chioma, tragically passed away on October 31, 2022, after drowning in a swimming pool at the family’s Lagos home. He was just three years old.
The singer revealed that the pain of losing Ifeanyi led him to temporarily step away from music and focus on healing. “That type of loss made me be like, ‘I’m out’. I am just going to chill, take care of my wife and the family, and get my head right,” he said.
Davido and Chioma welcomed twins — a boy and a girl — a year later in the United States. The singer sees their birth as a sign of divine intervention. “To come back from that and be blessed with twins just shows that God is real,” he added.
The couple has largely kept their family life private since the tragedy, but Davido has continued to speak candidly about his journey through grief, healing, and fatherhood.
