Four heavily-armed young men on Sunday night beseiged the Igbotako country home of billionaire politician, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, and kidnapped his 65-year-old mother, Mrs. Mafe Jimoh.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, who confirmed the development to our correspondent on Monday, explained that the incident was reported at the Igbotako Police Station around 11.30pm on Sunday night.

He, however, said men of the command had commenced investigation into the matter to ensure that the woman was released unhurt.

Our correspondent gathered that the four gunmen arrived the house, a one-storey building, located in the outskirt of the town, around 8.00pm and pretended to be customers, who wanted to buy some locally-made mats, which the woman was selling.

The guard on duty, who simply identified himself as Mr. Donatus Ekuma, explained to journalists on Monday at Igbotako that the old woman was upstairs when the kidnappers arrived.

Ekuma said, “Four of them came in a vehicle. Two of them came down from the car and demanded to see Mama. They claimed to be her customers and that they wanted to buy some mats.

“I told them that Mama was resting upstairs but they insisted on seeing her personally before they make their purchase and I obliged them,” he said.

Ekuma, however, said the story changed when the old woman came out to meet her ‘customers’ only to be held with force and dragged into the waiting vehicle.

“I immediately raised the alarm but the gunmen pointed their guns at me and the other domestic staff on duty, ordering us to lie face-down,” he added.

Our correspondent further learnt that the driver of the woman was sent on an errand when the incident happened, and that he did not go with the car.

The kidnappers, it was futher gathered, escaped with the old-woman on top speed.

Meanwhile, the kidnappers were yet to demand any ransom from the family of the biillionaire politician because she left her phone at home and she did not know any number off-hand.

Jimoh told THE PUNCH on Monday night that he had been in touch with the police and the state government on how to resolve the situation.

He said, “I have been inundated with calls within and outside Nigeria making inquiries on thisunwholesome development.”
