We have become so dependent on cars in this century that it may not even cross your mind to walk instead of taking the car. If you can squeeze in the extra few minutes to walk to your destination and back, and manage to do this a few times a week, you will quickly notice your improved conditioning and save gas money to boot. Another suggestion is to park your car towards the end of the lot where it will be better protected from door dings and will give you a bit of a hike to the store or your office.

2. Take the Stairs

Unless your destination is 100 flights up, taking the stairs will certainly get your blood pumping and give your legs a quick workout. As long as you walk into the room without perspiring heavily, the blush in your cheeks and the kick of endorphins can be a great way to make an entrance.

3. Play With Pets and Children

Pets and kids are two responsibilities in your life which can take up quite a bit of your time, but also provide an opportunity to meet some of your needs as well. Why not join in their high-energy play and reap some major fitness benefits?

4. Invigorate Your Cleaning

Cleaning your house can be a real opportunity to squeeze in some exercise time. Make the most of your household chores by adding squats, stretches, and even doing a few reps with a heavier object you have lifted to clean under.

5. Energize Your TV/Movie Time

Whether you’re watching the daily news or a movie with the family, there’s no reason you can’t be doing some light exercises or yoga while enjoying the entertainment. It’s a great habit to get into, and the distraction can make the exercise process so much more enjoyable.

6. Break Up Sitting for Long Periods of Time

With computers practically allowing people to run their businesses from their desks, there can be many hours that you will be completely sedentary throughout the work day. A quick remedy for this may be standing up, stretching, moving around, or taking a few flights of stairs. Integrating a little motion into your sedentary day at the office will not only increase your daily exercise, but the blood flow and endorphins will clear your head and allow you a fresh perspective, whatever the project may be.
