Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) yesterday told the Police High Command that the party would not accept any winner short of its candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari in the April presidential polls. CPC also vowed that the party was ready to go to any length to prosecute any injustices perpetrated in any form at the polls, stressing that if free and fair elections were conducted the party would not leave anyone in doubt that its candidate, Buhari, was the winner of the elections.

National Secretary of CPC, Buba Galadima, speaking at a security meeting of all registered political parties chieftains and the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim said the party had no confidence in the ability of the nation’s security agencies in providing a level playing field for credible elections in Nigeria.

“If politics is a game of numbers and then is election on April 9. If General Buhari does not score more than 80 percent of the votes, even if he scores 79.9 percent, it means the election has been rigged because opinion polls by genuine polls across the world has shown he will not only win but that he will win convincingly not landslide but supersonic side.

“ I am little disturbed as is only seven or eight registered political parties present in this meeting. There is a need for investigation that either the invitation has not been communicated to other parties or that they have no confidence in the neutrality of the police. If it is the latter, this is lack of confidence. I think the police has a problem, whether they believe it or not, they have to clear that image before we reach that election,” the CPC chief scribe noted.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, in a swift reaction applauded the IGP for initiating the meeting but disagreed with the security measures announced by the police, stating that the number of security operatives to be deployed to each polling unit was grossly inadequate as well as without weapons.

According to him, “police said they are going to co-opt other security agencies to maintain law and order during elections but what I am saying is the possibility of bringing one each from these agencies and at the end of the day you will have five in each polling station.
“And none of them would be armed. How do you guarantee that there will not be exchange of hot words, which may degenerate into violence. We are thinking that the police should increase the number of policemen at polling boots. Maybe if we have three mobile policemen with two regulars and other security agencies, they will be adequate to overcome any violence.
The IGP who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations, Audu Abubakar assured politicians that the police had adequately prepared to face any challenges that might arise during the polls but warned that the politicians too had major roles to play in the conduct of a free, fair and credible elections.
