Oba rapes corps member …Docked, released on bail

An Osun State monarch, has been arrested and arraigned in an Osun State Magistrate Court for allegedly molesting a corps member.

The royal father, who was arrested on March 28 was said to have forcefully had sex with the 23-years-old corps member at his Osogbo residence on March 25.

The monarch appeared before Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode on March 30. Curiously, the magistrate was said to have instructed that the court proceedings should not be made public.
Efforts by Daily Sun to get documents pertaining to the matter were rebuffed by court officials, who directed all enquiries to the presiding magistrate.

Daily Sun gathered that the king allegedly lured the corps member to Osogbo after helping him to take inventory of his subjects and prospective trainees for a proposed computer training programme to be organized by the king. Speaking on the incident, yesterday, Osun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Etim Enyenihi, condemned the incident, describing it as “very shameful.”
He stated that the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga had been briefed on the incident and had vowed to ensure that the king faced the full weight of the law.
“It is quite regrettable that the monarch in whose care these corps members are put as his wards and as his own people working to better the lot of his community, is the same person accused of trying to molest and harass segxwally, a young girl for that matter.

“We, on our own part, have decided to withdraw the corps member from that local government to another local government. The headquarters have been informed about the incident and we are praying that this should not be one of the cases that are normally put under the carpet. The monarch should face the full weight of the law, if found guilty,” Enyenihi stated.

In the statement made to the police and the NYSC coordinator, the rape victim recalled how the monarch gave her a free ride on the pretence that she was the one who attended to him during the voters’ registration exercise.
She stated that it was during the ride that the monarch brought the idea of setting up a computer training centre for his subjects and sought the assistance of the corps member.
The lady was said to have offered to assist the monarch at no cost and as part of her community project to the state.

On March 25, the corps member was said to have been invited to the palace to register students and other prospective trainees for the computer project.
After the exercise, the king allegedly told the corps member that some people were waiting for him in Osogbo and that she should accompany him to Osogbo for the computation of the names of those who registered for the computer training.

It was at Osogbo that the king decided to rape the corps member and threatened to kill her when she resisted.

this matters should not be swept under the carpet as usual , and that disgaceful OBA should be exposed publicly and ley him serves as a lesson to others like him , let the town ,or village he happened to be raised against him , such a person is not fit to be a local chief not to talk of being a traditional ruler , and its also a time we do away with all those local and uncivilised traditions in the modern jet age
