Faith in God either moves mountains or tunnels through
Fr. John Powell sj, tells a beautiful story about a student of his, in his book, Unconditional love. Tommy was a self-proclaimed atheist. He scoffed at religion. On his last day in school, he said, Fr.Powell, "Do you think I'll ever find God?"
Father answered, "No Tommy, you won't find God, but God will find you, "Tommy was not impressed.
Some years later, Tommy stricken with terminal cancer, visited Fr. Powell. He was reduced to skin and bone, and had lost his hair due to chemotherapy. He reminded Father about the statement he had made, and confided that when the doctors told him he had a short time to live, he had started praying. When he did not find much relief in prayer, he gave up. Then he remembered something else Father had said: to die without having loved someone, or not telling someone you loved that you really loved him or her would be the greatest tragedy of life.
So Tommy started "with the toughest person of all: my dad." when he told his dad how mch he loved him, his father wept and hugged him, they chatted the whole night long, Then he told his mother and younger brother. Once he had done this, an unexpected thing happened to him, from out of the blue, God entered his life, with an unmistakable force and power.
God had found him, at last. Tommy died shortly after that.
