Two policemen were yesterday killed by suspected armed robbers in Suleja Niger state while on duty and their ammunition carted away.
The two policemen were said to be on duty at the residence of the Suleja Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman Alhaji Umar Mohammed Mandalla. Our correspondent gathered that the suspected robbers stormed the private residence of the chairman early in the morning on Friday and shot the two policemen on duty. According to an eyewitness the robbers after killing the policemen went away with their official ammunition a pistol and rounds of ammunition. The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council Alhaji Umar Mandalla was not at home when the incident happened. Nothing was also taken from the residence. After the operation the eyewitness said the assailants took away the rifle and some rounds of ammunition and escaped on the same on the same motorcycle they used for the operation. The killing it was gathered caused pandemonium in Madalla area with people running helter_skelter for safety. The State Police Spokesman ASP Oguche Richard Adamu confirmed the incident which he describing it as ‘sad and barbaric’. Oguche gave the serial number of the police rifle taken away by the robbers as FNC 98054624 adding that two rounds of ammunition was taken away. He said no arrest has been made but assured that the suspects would be apprehended and brought to book.
