The 57-year-old medical doctor, Dr. Wilfred Fajemisin, allegedly collected the money from various clients on the pretext that he would sell land to them at Tunde Owoeye Street, off Otunba Ademola Shobowale Way, Oke-Alo Estate, Gbagada, Lagos.
He was arraigned on a three-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 1(1) (a) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No. 14 of 2006.
Fajemisin was alleged to have collected N3 million from one Mr. Oladapo Olaleye as part payment for a parcel of land at Tunde Owoeye Street, Otunba Ademola Shobowale Way, Oke-Alo Estate, Gbagada, Lagos.
Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs Fadeke Giwa, claimed the defendant later collected N8.5 million from another client, a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Adelaja Adekoya, under the pretext of selling the same parcel of land to them. Giwa alleged that after paying the money, the complainants discovered that Fajemisin had earlier sold the said land to one Mr. Olumide Owulade, who claimed to be owner of the property.
The complainants petitioned the Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Ikoyi, Lagos, over the matter and he was arrested before the matter was subsequently transferred to the EFCC.
She said the offence, which was allegedly committed between September and October 2010, contravenes Section 1(1) (a) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No. 14 of 2006.
Fajemisin pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him and Justice Aishat Opesanwo adjourned the matter to July 1 for hearing of his application for bail.
