A release by Mr Augustine Achugwo Shimeobi, a member of the National Executive and Lagos Archdiocesan President, the Council of Apostleship of Prayer League of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Nigeria, indicates that the visit, which is at the instance of Pope Benedict XVI and the Father General of the Society of Jesus, Rev. Fr. Adolfo Nicolas, is meant to acquaint the Holy See with the situation of the Apostleship of Prayer, its youth wing, Eucharistic Youth Movement (EYM) and the Sacred Heart devotion in Nigeria.
This is in line with the plan to recreate and unite the Apostleship of Prayer worldwide.
The Apostleship of Prayer, a foremost Catholic pious organisation, was established in Vals France on 3rd December, 1844 by Rev. Fr. Francis Xavier Guatrelet, SJ. It is present in over 70 countries cutting across all continents in the world with headquarters in Rome.
It came to Nigeria in 1922 with the first centre at Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos and later spread to other parts of the country.
