Notwithstanding the public apologies rendered to the dreaded Boko Haram sect by former governors of Borno and  Gombe, Senator Alli Modu Sheriff and Senator Danjuma Goje as well as Alhaji Isa Yuguda, the incumbent governor of Bauchi State , it emerged at the weekend that members of the sect have decided to place some top Nigerians on death list.
It was learnt at the weekend that Senator Sheriff, the former Borno State governor is top on the list of possible targets of the sect drawn up by its leaders.
Sources said that while the former governor was originally handed five conditions by the sect, he has only fulfilled one of them by publicly apologising to the sect.
It was learnt that Sheriff thought that once he openly apologised to Boko Haram, that would suffice and that he could be left off the hook.
But sources confirmed that notwithstanding the apology, the sect leaders are still angry with Sheriff and that he tops the death list already drawn up.
It was gathered that while some members of the sect had made it look as if they were satisfied by the public apology, there is a plot to strike at the least expected time.
“There is the indication that Governor Modu Sheriff is really on the death list already compiled by the Boko Haram. Also included on the death list are Emirs, Islamic preachers and others who are opposed to their plans,” a source said.
A particular sect which has been preaching non violence in the North has its leaders listed as death target as well, a source said.
