According to Biswas, on July 7 he received a message that said that he had won a prize of Rs 5.5 crores. The message also directed Biswas to contact its sender and to email certain documents and to deposit Rs 20,000 in a bank account for processing his claim. He was again asked to deposit Rs 35,000 which he did. When Biswas was again asked to deposit Rs 1.9 lakh, he got suspicious and lodged a police complaint.
"After we received a complaint, we laid a trap near Select City Walk mall in Saket, where the victim was supposed to hand over the money to the accused. Nicholas was caught red-handed while accepting the cash from the victim," said Ajay Choudhary, ACP (South-east).
