A Goal To TB Joshua?

Ever heard of T.B. Joshua? Ever heard of his “gift of prophecy”? Just browsing on the internet, glancing through various articles one might reach the conclusion that either T.B. Joshua is a real, authentic prophet of our time or he is an imposter, operating on a mammoth scale running a sophisticated coordinated undercover effort to deceive millions.

Hundreds certainly are very eager to voice their opinions about this man and his predictions/ prophecies. According to The SCOAN, T.B. Joshua has predicted numerous events, including: The rescue of Ingrid Betancourt from the jungle, the resignations of President Musharraf and Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the recent fire in a building in Enfield, London, the tragic plane crash of Polish government officials, the parting of Edward Kennedy, the postponement of the recent elections in Nigeria to name a few.

On hearing these prophecies, many people are almost too quick to make a judgement and either rule that it is all fake because TB Joshua is a false prophet or that it is all true because TB Joshua is a man of God. Less often do people take time to really listen to the many prophecies TB Joshua has given and form judgements based objectively on what was said and what actually happened.

This week, there has been some debate regarding what T.B. Joshua apparently said about the African Cup of Nations qualifying match between Nigeria and Guinea this Saturday. It has been reported that TB Joshua has said:
“People might be saying "oh why wouldn’t he just pray and change things to favour Nigeria". I cannot just do it on my own. I’m not a witch doctor, I’m a pastor. If a prophecy is given about a certain people, these people must agree with the man of God in prayer before God can do anything about it or else, it’ll remain as it is. In my vision, I see two teams struggling and struggling for just one goal. Then in the second half. One of the teams scores. That goal will decide the match. Hmmm, well. . . All I can say is that the game does not favour Nigeria. But with God, all things are possible o. First of all, we have to play our own part. Pray as if all depends on God. Play football as if all depends on you. Thank you. . . . . . .”

This is not the first time that TB Joshua has spoken out regarding outcomes of football matches. Let’s just look at a few of such prophecies.

NIGERIA VS TUNISIA (WORLD CUP QUALIFIER, 2009)
“The whole thing was tough. It was tough to decide. Here is balanced, here is balanced. Both sides left the field, they could not take decision who is the most powerful between the two, it got to a stage – go and sit down, go and sit down.”

The game ended 2-2, it was a draw.

NIGERIA VS MOZAMBIQUE (WORLD CUP QUALIFIER, 2009)
“We need a goal to lead the other people. It is not every time they will beat us. A goal. We’ll smile differently today. This man will head a goal for us.”

In added time of the match, Obinna Nsofor of Nigeria scored a goal by a header.

SOUTH AFRICA VS MEXICO (OPENING MATCH, WORLD CUP 2010)
“First match, I am seeing a goal for the nation South Africa. If the host country scores one, they need to defend their home, they know they cannot score more than that, but situation where they want to score more, they will score against them, the other country will have 1 and the host country will have 1. The Lord says there can be no more than 1.”

The match ended 1-1 and South Africa scored first.

SPAIN VS HOLLAND (WORLD CUP FINAL 2010)
“Up Spain. The goalkeeper of Spain will be the Saviour. The Netherlands will give them a tough time. The goalkeeper of Spain will save them today. I see a controversy, but at the end of the day it was what determined the champion, there is a controversy - which a referee gave a yellow card. Netherlands will really press them but Spain will get their way in the end. It is the goalkeeper of Spain that saved them.”

The match ended 1-0 to Spain, and John Heitinga of the Netherlands was sent off for a second yellow card.

NIGERIA U20 VS FRANCE U20 (U20 WORLCUP 2011)
“They have spoilt the ball. I saw a slim guy black in complexion, he has a cut hair, we should quickly score before these people – because what I’m seeing, first come, first serve.”

The game ended 3-2 to France. France scored first and the player that scored was slim, black in complexion and had a cut hair style.

I guess the question to ask is: if it was all fake, then would TB Joshua be so crazy as to risk his reputation as a prophet of God by standing up and proclaiming such things as from God, whereas they are not? If it turned out that he predicted the result of a match and opposite was the case, what would happen to his integrity in the eyes of people? If he truly knew that it was all made up, why stand up and boldly declare that it is from God?

Secondly, how is it that it could be fake (given that what he says does actually come to pass)? One opinion might be that the prophecy was said after the event took place and then published as if it was before the event. But each of these prophecies are given during Sunday services at The SCOAN broadcast live all over the world. Surely, if TB Joshua did not say these prophecies live and before the events concerned took place, by now, there would be a huge outcry from those watching, that he never said this or that. Even if you can say that he can employ actresses and actors in Nigeria to play his game, what about the many thousands that tune in via Emmanuel TV?

The other option might be that he is using powers of divination/ sorcery to predict such outcomes (seeing as they do actually come to pass). If this is the case, is this in line with everything else that happens in the ministry – the sick are healed, the demon-possessed are delivered, the needy receive help, all in the name of Jesus, I thought that salt and fresh water cannot flow from the same spring?

Either TB Joshua is the cleverest, trickiest fraudster, using divination, sorcery, and all the powers of fortune telling to his gain. If this is the case, he has the largest staff of actors and actresses (in Nigeria and even the world), he uses his power to deceive heads of state, government officials and ministers and people from all over the world.

Or TB Joshua is a genuine servant of God who speaks what he hears from God but who is intensely persecuted and vilified.

After taking note of T.B. Joshua’s prophecies, only the foolish would just ignore them or forget about them. If they are true, then it is of great significance to not only the nation Nigeria, but to the entire world. And if it is all false, then this is a huge deception and the right questions need to be asked - merely ranting about it on the internet will not expose what needs to be exposed or establish justice where there is criminality.
