Johnson, 31, and Blessing, 27, have been dating for five years but live in separate houses. Every Tuesday, they enjoy a fun date night—whether it’s dinner and a movie, taking a rock climbing class, or playing around in a garden. Blessing recently started a new job and the workload has been stressing her out. As a result, she’s had to cancel date night more frequently, and Johnson is starting to get upset. Who’s right?

He says: “I love Blessing and understand her new job is important to her, but I put a lot of effort in making our weekly date nights fun. When she cancels last minute because she’s too tired after work, it’s hurtful and makes me feel unappreciated. Plus, going out with me should be a good stress reliever and not a burden for her, which is how I feel when she backs out.”

She says: “I hate canceling on Johnson, but I just feel so burnt out after work sometimes that I know I won’t be much fun. I don’t want to give up our weekly tradition either but committing to every Tuesday right now is really hard for me. We’ve all been through new-job stress so I don’t see the problem with telling him I just can’t make it sometimes.”

Whose side are you on? (Explain your reasoning in the comments section.)
- Johnson
- Blessing
